As a collection of recollective writings, this book covers what the author saw, heard and felt inside and outside China from the period of the Anti-Japanese War to the Reform and Opening Up when the country reopened to the outside world, including letters from the the author's friends. On the one hand, it records the sacrifices that the revolutionary forebears had made to fight against the invaders and win democracy, freedom and happiness for the people; on the other hand, it also reflects the efforts that Chinese people had made since the Reform and Opening Up in learning advanced knowledge from the abroad and catch up with the trend of the world. The whole book, with its simple and smooth language and a great number of historical pictures, lively shows a profile of the times of the author.
