Compiled with meticulous care in accordance with the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education, this textbook is designed for Chinese news reading courses at the advanced stage (Levels 7-9) of international Chinese language education. It is structured into 10 theme-based units, covering a wide range of fields including current politics, economy, culture, and environmental protection. Each lesson consists of multiple sections such as “Warm-up Topics”, “Text”, “Vocabulary Learning”, “Notes”, “Exercises”, “Extended Reading”, and “Journalism Knowledge Window”. The articles for the main texts and extended reading are selected from publicly published and translated domestic and foreign news publications, films, television programs, and online materials in recent years, and some articles have been appropriately abridged or revised to meet teaching needs. The exercises emphasize pertinence and effectiveness, adopting various forms such as selecting the correct explanation of underlined words in sentences, judging true or false, choosing the correct answer, and answering questions, so as to comprehensively test learners’ comprehension abilities. The professional journalism knowledge focuses on popularizing basic knowledge, aiming to cultivate learners’ news sensitivity and enhance their reading comprehension skills.

clarifying news structure, selecting novel and rich materials, and emphasizing
the grasp of timeliness. Its innovative feature lies in the organic integration
of the professional characteristics of journalism with article reading, which
effectively addresses the shortcomings of traditional news reading textbooks in
international Chinese language education, such as overemphasizing reading while
neglecting journalism, and lacking news timeliness, thus enhancing the textbook’s
practicality. Teachers can guide Chinese language learners to gradually develop
news sensitivity, strengthen reading intuition, and comprehensively improve
their Chinese language proficiency on the basis of mastering professional
journalism knowledge.
This book can be used as a textbook for Chinese news reading courses at the advanced stage (Levels 7-9) of international Chinese language education. It is recommended that 6 class hours be allocated to each topic, with 4 hours for the main texts and 2 hours for extended reading. Teachers delivering the course can flexibly reduce or add content in the extended reading section based on the actual situation of classroom teaching, thereby further enhancing the timeliness of the course.
